According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, Melbourne Victory are in discussions with top flight English Premiership club Liverpool FC to play an exhibition match in Melbourne at some stage this year. It would compliment the other major name visitor to Australian shores in 2013, Manchester United when they play the A League All Stars in Sydney.
Liverpool Sales Director Olly Dale was in the crowd for the Melbourne Victory Sydney FC game as part of a tour evaluation. ”We have come together and hopefully we can consecrate a major deal for something very special to take place this year”, Victory chairman Anthony Di Pietro said at a pre-match function. It was initially believed that Olly Dale was visiting Melbourne to scout players which has been confirmed as false.
It is expected that the game could be played at the MCG.
