2013 AFL Draw released
2013 MCG AFL Draw

The 2013 AFL Draw has been released and today we’re going to take a look at corporate boxes at the MCG and answer a few questions we get fairly regularly.

MCG Corporate Boxes are also referred to as MCG Corporate Suites. There is another blog post where I explain the definitions of corporate hospitality, with emphasis on the differences between corporate suites and corporate boxes, so be sure to check it out. For the purposes of this article, we’ll refer to them as corporate boxes.

There are over 100 Corporate Boxes at the MCG. They range in size from 12 seats up to 50 seats, with the majority of boxes being 16 seaters. They are located around the entire ground, with some on level 2 and level 3.

Most of the corporate boxes are leased by private companies who use them exclusively to entertain their clients on a yearly basis and the cost for these can be measure in the 100s of thousands of dollars, however there are around a dozen or so boxes that are leased by various different organisations with the sole intention of selling them on a game by game basis.

They are available for the AFL home and away regular season and the prices range between $300 to $550 per person. They’re also available for the AFL Finals Series. Boxes for the AFL Grand Final are a different story, and we cover that off in another video, so check that out. They are also available for the cricket season and any other special events that take place at the MCG.

About the boxes:

MCG Corporate Boxes feature comfortable lounge style seating behind large sliding glass windows which can be opened or closed depending on your preference. You might want to keep the windows open to soak up the atmosphere or you might want to keep them closed if you want to talk. They have their own bar fridges, food serving areas and kitchen, plus a dedicated steward who is present to serve drinks to guests and arrange the food. In our opinion, they are the ultimate corporate hospitality facility.

One of the questions that we are asked all the time is” why are the prices different”?

And I’ll use AFL as the example here. Quite simply, it is supply and demand. For example, a blockbuster game between 2 popular Melbourne based teams, say Collingwood and Carlton may be priced from $500 to $550pp, whereas a game featuring a less popular Melbourne based team playing a poorly performing interstate team may only be priced at $300 to $350 per person. This could be for the exact same box with exactly the same food and beverage menu.

Friday night games are generally more popular than weekend games for companies wishing to entertain their clients and therefore the majority of those games are priced at the premium end, regardless of who is playing.

Now pricing can also vary from box to box depending on the level of catering supplied. There are 2 fairly distinct food menu types, one being a full buffet style meal and the other being a cocktail style grazing menu that isn’t really a substantial meal. Similarly, the beverage menu chosen can impact the price per head.

In summary, the MCG Corporate Boxes are a very popular client entertainment options, so we’ve set up a dedicated service that specialises in facilitating bookings between the owners of the boxes and people wanting to entertain their clients once, twice or a handful of times each year.. Be sure to check out our website, www.corporateboxhire.com.au  and talk to us today about the range of options that are available.
